(Gainesville, Ga.) – Lauren Hill was a high school athlete from Greendale, Ind., who wanted nothing more than to play college basketball. There is one thing in her way… inoperable brain cancer that she was diagnosed with in her senior year of high school.
“I never gave up for a second even when I got a terminal diagnosis; never thought about sitting back and not living life anymore,” Hill stated.
The Mount did not plan to start their season until the end of November; however, with her conditions she wasn’t guaranteed to be able to play in that first game.
With help from the NCAA and the corresponding team made it a point to move the game up more than two weeks to make sure she was able to fulfill her dream of playing as a college basketball player.
On November 2, 2014, Hill stepped on to the basketball court at Xavier University to a standing ovation. She was put in the game and made the first lay-up of the game.
She then scored the winning points with the score at 66-65, bringing home the victory.
