As the last of this year’s Spring Break pictures in Miami are posted to Instagram, and the whispers of “senior thesis” and “senior reviews” began to overcome your classmates, you have no choice but to accept that the wildest four years of your life are slowly coming to an end. So what do you do? – RUN. Just kidding, you face your fears head on like the mature adult your parents are probably afraid you will never become. The good news is you definitely are not the only college senior facing the inevitable fear of the unknown that comes with entering the grown-up world. So, below are 3 tips that will surely help you make this transition a bit smoother as you focus on graduating these last few weeks.
Accept it.
(Everyone says the first stage for handling grief is acceptance … right?)
The sooner you come to terms with the fact that you are graduating, the quicker you can achieve some productive tasks on your to-do-before-graduation list, like preparing for life after. That includes making last minute touch ups on your resume’ for internships, jobs or higher education. The quicker you establish your next move, the more comfortable you will be with the thought of leaving. Change is an uncomfortable feeling, but without it we would never grow.
Know that it’s going to be OK!
(Like seriously.)
You are smart, gorgeous, talented and young. You will be OK in life no matter what you decide to do, as long as you don not settle. So if you happen to end up back home working in the mall, life cannot keep you there if you remain motivated. Save up your money and take a chance in traveling the world for a few months, or start your own business if you are having trouble finding a career in the field of your choice.
Don’t stop making memories.
(That’s why Apple gave us the front AND back cameras.)
These are the last moments you will share with your graduating class all together, so make the most of it. You do not want the next time you see Becky from Psych 402 to be on Facebook as she posts cute pictures from her son’s Tiny Tot Soccer Tournament. Live it up! And make the most of these last few days.
