On Saturday, Feb. 8, the students at the Gainesville Campus of Brenau University decided to spend the day out and about, enjoying the snow whilst it lasts. Here are a few pictures taken of how some students spent their Saturday in the snow:
LaTonya Boston, winner of Brenau’s Got Talent 2020
Winning a talent show can teach the importance of continuing to pursue your passions. This past Saturday at Brenau’s Winter Weekend LaTonya Boston tapped her way to 1st place at Brenau’s Got Talent. She won the grand prize of $750.00. Boston is a sophomore dance major and was an elite member of the NoFilterSoulTalk teen group founded by Syncopated Ladies, an Emmy nominated dance troupe. Her year with Syncopated Ladies gave her the talented ability to beat her fierce competitors at BGT, whom some are also professional dancers.
Student Profile: Jamie Bunting
There comes a time when every Brenau student finishes their education. One student getting ready to graduate this May is Jamie Bunting. Bunting is a primary education major and after graduation has plans to find a teaching job for 1st to 3rd grade. She also has hopes to start earning a master’s in early education.
Student Profile: Leqi ‘Mabel’ Mei
Walking through the gates of her previous school, Anhui Normal University in 2016, Leqi Mei, a Chinese student known as Mabel, had only dreamed of coming to America. Little did she know that the opportunity would arise in 2018. “I came to Brenau University through the 2+2 program,” she said. Mabel, 21, an English Literature major and Mass Communications minor is one of the many seniors who will be graduating in May.
You Can’t Speak Another Language?
In America, learning a foreign language is not compulsory until high school. Upon entering college, schools only require that you take the minimum one year of any foreign language course. While the requirements for taking a foreign language course are minimal in the United States, I have learned that most colleges provide students with the option to become proficient in another language by offering rigorous courses; except Brenau University.
