Blackpink in America

Korean Pop was first noticed in the U.S. in 2012 when Psy’s “Gangnam Style” became the first video on YouTube to have a billion streams. When it was released it was something new and unfamiliar to us. Over the past decade, Korean Pop has become more well-known with many groups touring in America. After almost three years since their debut, BlackPink will finally step foot on American soil for the first time.

Brenau University: Student Exhibition

The work being showcased is from students who are all a part of Brenau’s Art Department. Some work featured in the exhibition is digital posters or printings, sculptors, paintings, photography, pieces of clothing and drawings. Students involved come from all different areas of the art department such as fashion design, graphic design, interior design, or even undeclared students.

LaTonya Boston, winner of Brenau’s Got Talent 2020

Winning a talent show can teach the importance of continuing to pursue your passions. This past Saturday at Brenau’s Winter Weekend LaTonya Boston tapped her way to 1st place at Brenau’s Got Talent. She won the grand prize of $750.00. Boston is a sophomore dance major and was an elite member of the NoFilterSoulTalk teen group founded by Syncopated Ladies, an Emmy nominated dance troupe. Her year with Syncopated Ladies gave her the talented ability to beat her fierce competitors at BGT, whom some are also professional dancers.

Twenty One Pilots: The True Clique

Although people see Twenty One Pilots as ‘mainstream’ because of their achievements, they just want to be their own band with their own sound. Their songs are for everyone and appeal to a wide range of listeners. They talk about anxiety, depression and, have created a movement towards people who need it. They hope that no matter how overplayed their music is over the radio, their fans will still sing along.

The Integration of Nigerian Culture in Western Mainstream Media

I am sure that you are pondering the commonalities found in all of the given scenarios and here it is: Nigerian culture. Slowly but surely, the culture is being assimilated into mainstream media, particularly in Western Europe and the United States.

We take special pride in The Alchemist. The student ran newspaper was the first publication distributed on the campus of Brenau University. The Alchemist went viral in Fall 2006. It has been over 100 years since the first article was printed, and has since evolved into the prominent platform for students to leave a legacy through their writing.
