The Golden Tigers softball team unleashed a 13-hit attack in an 8-4 victory over the No. 4-ranked Central Baptist College Lady Mustangs of Conway, Ark. (53-7) Monday afternoon following a 4-0 win over conference rival Auburn University-Montgomery. The Tigers now are 5-0 in the NAIA national championship tournament that is underway in Gulf Shores, Ala.
The Tigers broke one the afternoon game with five runs on four straight hits in the first inning against the powerful Central Baptist team and then added runs in the third, fourth and sixth. The Brenau team also jumped on AUM early in the morning game, scoring two runs on the first inning.
In the morning game, winning pitcher Jenny Shepard (16-5) recorded the third straight shutout for the Tigers in tournament play, giving up only two hits and scattering six walks. Brenau ace Anna Manes (22-9) got the win in the afternoon outing with seven strike-outs.
