During the week of Oct.19, Dr. Hollimon challenged her class with a project. These students created a week full of themed days for other students throughout campus to participate in. The goal was to promote positive body image and self-love across Brenau’s campus.
The week’s itinerary included:
Mammary Monday- A day about embracing your breast size.
Tangled Hair Tuesday- A day about embracing your natural hair.
Weight Lovin’ Wednesday- A day to educate students on eating disorders and loving themselves despite society’s impossible standards of beauty.
Thigh Touchin’ Thursday- A day about loving your thighs (and your body) for how they are.
Feelin’ Myself Friday- To wrap up the week, this was a day to promote loving yourself, mind and body.
Rebecca Jarrett, a student organizer, stated, “I think this week was important because we are a campus of mainly females, and we have been subjected to the beauty myth for all our lives. We are told to compare ourselves to society’s impossible standards of beauty, and this causes us to waste our lives not loving ourselves. I wholeheartedly hope that Brenau will do events like this in the future! I believe that we will, because it was so well-received. I think the staff and students want more events like this in the future.”
