Mumford & Sons’ new album, “Babel,” released on September 25 in the U.S., claimed the number one spot on the Billboard 200 this week. But that wasn’t enough for this British indie rock band; they also placed six songs from this album on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. That is the most Hot 100 titles in one week since the Beatles over 48 years ago.
Along with accomplishments like these and being compared to bands like the Beatles, “Babel” had the fastest and largest sales sum in the U.S. this year. It reputedly sold 600,000 copies in its first week of release.
Among their six songs on the Hot 100 chart was their lead single, “I Will Wait” at number 57, “ as well as “Lover’s Eyes” (No. 85), “Whispers in the Dark” (No. 86), “Ghosts That We Knew” (No. 94) and others.
The last time a band had this many titles recognized on the Hot 100 simultaneously was the Beatles back during the week of Sept. 19, 1964.
