Here Comes Honey Boo Boo

I would like to start by saying that I am embarrassed to know these people are from Georgia, let alone my hometown of Griffin. I do not watch “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” often and when I do it is not my choice. I would liken watching the show to watching a train wreck – one simply cannot look away.

As someone who had never experienced anything to do with “Honey Boo Boo Child,” I can honestly say I was quite frightened when I first watched the show. After having watched several episodes, I can only say I am appalled to know these people are being paid for essentially destroying their child’s life. I am not a particular fan of beauty pageants to begin with because they either lower a child’s self-esteem or boost their ego to an unhealthy degree. In

Honey Boo Boo’s case, her losses make no sense to her but it is plain to see to the audience. Honey Boo Boo is simply not being raised to be a lady – her choice catchphrase is “you best redneck-ognize!” She is so bold, loud, and inappropriate that even her pageant training cannot overcome these qualities. What is truly sad about this situation is that because her family is being paid an excessive amount of money, this is viewed as acceptable.

In addition, the examples being set for Honey Boo Boo do not give viewers much hope for her future. Her mother is unmarried, having had children by different men, while her eldest daughter is an unwed teenage mother. If the cycle continues, the audience has a clear picture of where Honey Boo Boo could end up in ten years. All I know is, I will be praying for Honey Boo Boo.
