(Gainesville, Ga.) The new Boyfriend Trainer app by Apple has raised some controversy. The game lets the player create a virtual boyfriend that you can “train”. According to users the word train in this game could be substituted for abuse.
In the game it is the player’s job to train her boyfriend. What is she training him to do you might ask? Some of the things the player can train her boyfriend to do are: not look at other girls, not leave his clothes on the floor, not drink or eat her food etc.
If the boyfriend does one of these things he can be “trained” by being slapped, having mace sprayed in his eyes, being put on a leash and choked or worse.
This game says for ages 4 and up but most parents think it’s too aggressive and violent for a four-year-old.
Some argue that if a game called Girlfriend Trainer came out and virtual boyfriends were choking girls with leashes, hitting them etcetera it would be immediately taken off the market. While this may be true, Apple has yet to remove the new game.
We will have to wait and see what the outcome of this controversy will be. Apple may eventually remove this game. If not due to violence then maybe due to complaints.
