(Gainesville, Ga.) On Tuesday March 12, the Roman Catholics will vote for their new pope. Pope Benedict XI’s recent resignation led the Roman Catholics on a search for a new Pope. Although there have been many rumors on why the last Pope resigned, no one knows the real reason. Whatever the reason, Benedict has kept it to himself.
The election for a new Pope is a secret process. Because of this, no one other than those present knows what happens. The morning of the election, those involved in the elections took part in a procession where they chanted. According to Laura Smith-Spark from CNN News, “Moving in solemn procession through rooms rich with painting and history, the Catholic cardinals Tuesday went into the Sistine Chapel”. After entering the chapel they will all take a secret oath and then the election will begin.
The 115 Roman Catholic Cardinals will be the ones involved in the election of the new Pope. They will all be present during the secret election.
Journalists crowded the Sistine Chapel on Tuesday morning, hoping to be the first to get news coverage on the election.
Soon the new Pope will be announced to the public and the Roman Catholics will once again have a Pope.
