Police in Anchorage, Alaska responded to a typed anonymous note slipped under their door. The note told police where a severely beaten teenager was found in an abandoned house set to be demolished two days later, authorities said.
Police have identified the teen as 18-year-old James Clinton and he is unconscious and in critical condition.
The investigation started Monday night with the note deliver at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Chief Rick Shell said two officers were on duty at around 8:30p.m., their desk when they saw the note on the floor near the door.
After reading the note he believed that the Anchorage Police Department should be involved. Officers drove to the nearby home and found Clinton against his will being held in the basement.
Police spokeswoman Anita Shell said Clinton’s injuries were extensive. “It’s my understanding he was beaten around the head and the face, the whole body.” She said.
The home was owned by Covenant House, which runs a shelter for homeless teenagers. Director Alison Kear said the home was scheduled to be knocked down Wednesday to expand a parking lot.
The home had wrought iron mesh covering the windows and doors were locked. The only access Kear could guess was a second-floor window not much bigger than a dog door.
