It seems like Lululemon is at it again. Last month they were just in the news for slamming a local charity in Dallas, TX. This week they are offending women across the board. Back in the spring the company recalled some of its black yoga pants for being too sheer, but complaints still continue. The company’s CEO Chip Wilson appeared on the TV show “Street Smart” to discuss the problems associated with their black yoga pants. Wilson quoted, “Frankly, some women’s bodies actually don’t work for the pants… It’s really about the rubbing through the thighs, how much pressure is there over a period of time, and how they much they use it.” His wife who happens to be the co-founder of the company jumped in for a quick save by saying the wearing down of the pants is really more about the surfaces someone sits on while wearing them… Her comment was clever, but it came too late. Her husband already stated that some women’s bodies are simply incompatible.

The comment definitely targets women across the board. I read several comments women posted regarding the incident. One anonymous woman posted, “I’m a size 0 and clinically-speaking underweight. I never wore my pants for anything but yoga, but yet my pants were sheer on me, too. So, as a size 0 and a 23 in waist, you’re saying my body isn’t made for Lululemon pants??? If I’m too “big” for them, what’s the target size, -2???” Others posted comments like “Okay it’s not a lie that all women don’t look good in yoga pants, but you don’t have to announce it on public TV!!”

In all reality this is just another PR mishap for the company. First they offend a charity, now “women that don’t fit into their yoga pants.” Their PR practitioner may need to look for a new job.
