Lululemon Controversy

November 19, 2013 By Brenau Student Leave a Comment

By: CAROLINE ALDRIDGE

“Quite frankly some women’s bodies just don’t actually work for it. They don’t work for some women’s bodies…it’s really about the rubbing through the thighs, how much pressure is there over a period of time, how much they use it.” What first comes to mind when you read, the founder of Lululemon, Chip Wilson’s newest controversial quote?

For me, it was, “How dare he?!”. I could not believe a man would actually use these words. I mean, he could have at least sugar-coated it somewhat! The reason he said this is because many of his brand’s pants have become see through.

After further research in to the topic, I feel that he may be justified a little bit, although I do think he should have been more polite about his words. The fabric they use is obviously not the best quality, but he claims the pants will become see through when a woman’s thighs are constantly rubbing together. If he would have simply stated that instead of specifically saying, “They don’t work for some women’s bodies,” he may be in a different situation.

Wilson should have stated that the fabric is very thin, and friction will cause the fabric to become thinner and thinner. There are always alternate ways to fix a situation, and he definitely should have researched his alternate ways to come to a solution for this problem.
