Nelson Mandela health failing

Doctors are using tubes to clear the lungs of Nelson Mandela. The insertion of the tubes have prevented Mandela from being able to vocally communicate and he has resorted to use of facial expressions.

 

Mandela first became an international figure while being sentenced 27 years of imprisonment for fighting against the country’s system of racial segregation. Four years after being released from prison in 1994, Mandela became the first black president of Africa.

 

Winnie Mandela, Mandela’s ex-wife, stated “He remains very sensitive to germs, so he has to kept literally sterile.” She went on to inform local papers that the room where Mandela is kept is similar to that of an ICU ward. While Mandela remains stable, he is still ill. Doctors are tending to him in his home in a suburb Johannesburg.

 

The tubes are used to prevent infection from setting in. His problems with lung infections date back to his imprisonment, and has been a bought he has faced since then.

 

Although Mandela has not been seen in the public for years, he still remains an icon and the father of democracy and the nations fight against the apartheid.
