(Gainesville, Ga.) The Brenau Golden Tigers basketball team beat the Warhawks with the score of 67-61 Saturday night at Brenau.
After two conference losses to Faulkner and Southern Polytechnic Universities, the Golden Tigers hosted the conference game against the Warhawks, who also lost two last games before coming to Brenau.
The game started with the two made three pointers by a sophomore Kalin Williams from Palmetto, Ga., and a senior Brittney Wiley from Royston, Ga., giving the Golden Tigers quick lead 6-0.
However, the Warhawks fought back using the Golden Tigers poor shooting and got the lead in score 28-23 after the first period.
In the second half, both teams showed great shooting performance and played tight in score until the last minutes of the game. However, the support of Brenau fans, about 100 people, helped the Golden Tigers to win this game with the score of 67-61.
“We really struggled to finish shots in the first half. In the second half, we had some of the same looks, but really shot the ball well. This team plays so hard and I am really proud of their effort against a very solid AUM team,” said Kris Stewart, the head coach for the Golden Tigers.
Jasmine Butler, a junior from Gainesville, Ga., led the Golden Tigers with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Williams added also 21 points and six rebounds.
A senior Katie Williams from Smyrna, Tenn., and a junior Tina Odume from Snellville, Ga., led the Warhawks with 15 points each.
After this game, the Golden Tigers improved an overall record to 10-9 and the conference record to 5-6.
