(Gainesville, Ga.) Millions of people across the United States have been affected by multiple snow storms that hit the South and other places across the nation. These extreme winter storms more or less shutdown Atlanta and surrounding areas for days at a time, including Gainesville.
Roads were closed, along with businesses and many school closings. As a college student, I have been greatly affected by these “Snowpocalypse” episodes when it comes to school closings. Roughly two weeks of classes at Brenau University were canceled due to snowy and icy conditions.
Now, normally students would be happy about classes being cancelled and yes, is was great at first. Although, it became more of a burden after the second week was cancelled and I know other Brenau students would agree. I believe Brenau students have been affected more than other local universities. We already have a 14 week semester which is shorter than most universities. Then to have two weeks taken away, leaving students with a 12 week semester, puts a lot of stress on students and teachers to keep up. Who knew we would eventually want to have school instead of snow day? These storms and cancellations have really put things into perspective for Brenau students.
