(GAINESVILLE, GA.)—The ladies of the Rho Eta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. began their Saturday much earlier than most college students this past weekend.

Around 7 a.m., before the birds were done singing their morning songs, these ladies began to prepare decorations, music, breakfast and various display arrangements that would help make their fun benefit with a serious cause a success.

By 9 a.m. a crowd had gathered, balloons flew, pink and green decorations flooded the amphitheater, and the Save the Tatas Breast Cancer Awareness Walk 2014 was officially underway. The event began with a fun, high energy Zumba workout provided by instructor Shainie Cox, a student of Brenau University Women’s College, which added to the excitement for the day.

After the crowd was thoroughly warmed up, the walk in commemoration of all the women who have joined the fight against Breast Cancer took place. Participators, led by members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., chanted songs about surviving Breast Cancer and supporting those who are fighting it currently every step of the mile long walk.

The ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. also hosted a bra decorating contest in which participators in the walk could either model their own elaborately decorated bras or ones made by the members of the chapter in a fun pageant styled contest. The crowd and panel of judges chose Rochelle Brown, a student of Brenau University Women’s College, as the winner of the contest.

After, the event ended with a girl power inspired dance party. The fun and meaningful actions of this event were the perfect face lift for the traditional ways of spreading Breast Cancer awareness amongst young females.
