(Gainesville, Ga.)- We all wait anxiously for the holiday season every year. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years are always good times for family and fellowship but there is one unofficial holiday of the year that brings people together faster than turkey on the table… Black Friday!
In light of our Black Friday Festivities here are some fun facts that very few people know about the Black Friday holiday’s history:
Black Friday was originally started without the official name to boost America’s struggling economy. Retail store owners got together one year and had an idea that if they all lowered their prices, then they would be able to get rid of merchandise that would go out of season or lose value in the coming new year. This act started in the 80’s and over the years has grown to the big deal it is today!
Police nicknamed this event “Black Friday” because of the dangers of the holiday and injuries/fatalities involved. The true retail meaning of “Black Friday” is the day that the sales of the retail store goes from Red zone to Black.
Many people don’t know that you should go Christmas shopping early every year! The reason being that stores have their lowest prices in October and the first week of November. After that first week, prices will skyrocket until Black Friday. On Black Friday night, the prices are then dropped to its original price so that the buyer thinks they are getting a deal.
Shop for the holidays early but if you are one of those people that get a thrill out of Black Friday shopping, you might be lucky to actually find a deal.
Last but not least, Black Friday is on the list of most dangerous Holidays even though it is not an OFFICIAL Federal Holiday. The numbers of murders by stampede only rise every year. In measures to stop such violence, stores are taking approaches such as giving out tickets to customers.
Don’t let this article discourage you and your shopping habits every holiday season. Be thankful and go out to boost the economy!
Happy Holidays!
