(Gainesville, Ga.)—After the departure of 10 players from the 2014-15 soccer season, the Brenau Golden Tigers are welcoming 13 new players to the roster. With such an overhaul, it may take some time for the team to develop chemistry. Looking at their early season record, however, the team seems to be off to a strong start.
The season opened on Aug. 25 in a 3-2 win over Point University, with all three of the team’s goals coming from Maddie Corley and Tiffany Raygor. Keeper Ashley Spring recorded two saves. The team then fell to Thomas University on Aug. 30 after a tough double overtime match with a final score of 3-2. Raygor and Corley again contributed the team’s points while Spring recorded 10 saves.
On Sept. 5, the Golden Tigers were able to showcase their new talent to the home crowd in a match against Bryan College. Despite a 30-minute rain delay, the Golden Tigers came out strong with enough energy to act as the aggressor for much of the first half, controlling the paces and setting up strong shots on goal. The hard work paid off with a goal from sophomore Carly Hill at the 33:50 minute mark.
Perhaps the most impressive and noticeable sign of strong team chemistry was the audible communication. Defensive and offensive players for both Brenau and Bryan communicated with their teammates, which resulted in tight-knit unity and an exciting game. The Golden Tigers managed to contain Bryan College enough to one shot on goal, saved by Spring, and won the match with a final score of 1-0.
The Golden Tigers next match at Cumberland University in Tennessee on Sept. 16 at 2pm. For more information about the Brenau soccer team and other sports teams,
