(Gainesville, Ga.)—Brenau students launched the school’s chapter of Her Campus Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 6:30p.m. in the Student Union Building (SUB). Led by sophomore campus correspondent Kenya Hunter and junior campus correspondent Nicole Vernon, guests were treated to food, music and raffle prizes. Most importantly, they got a first look at the website on the day of its launch.
Her Campus is a nationwide online blogging format for college women. Over 7,000 contributors use the Her Campus domain as a platform for articles on style, health, career, and social issues that are specific to their schools. The website provides college writers with the opportunity to share their writing and opinions on a massive scale. According to the official Her Campus website, former writers have been offered job opportunities at institutions such as Vogue, Buzz Feed, MTV and the Huffington Post.
The application process for bringing a Her Campus chapter to one’s school includes a phone interview with the Her Campus Development Associate, 100 signatures from students who vote to support the chapter and submitting the first week’s worth of content for National review and approval. Hunter and Vernon gained over 100 email signatures in the spring of 2015 and promptly began to develop the Brenau chapter.
Brenau’s Her Campus staff of student writers will share feature stories, blog posts, and special segments such as “campus celebrity” and “campus cutie” that will celebrate different Brenau students for their style and accomplishments. The Brenau chapter will also share updates through a Twitter and Instagram account, @HerCampusBrenau, as well as a Facebook page. To view the official website, visit hercampus.com/Brenau
