(Gainesville, Ga.) – Students who are new to Brenau or the city of Gainesville may not be aware of all of the wonderful dining options that this small city has to offer. The Square located in downtown Gainesville is a short walk from Brenau that houses several great restaurants.

As a Gainesville native, I personally suggest that everyone check out the Collegiate Grill. It opened in 1947 on 220 Main St SW. Its authenticity hasn’t changed much since its grand opening. Everything is freshly made from scratch, including the delicious hamburgers and handspun milkshakes. The Collegiate Grill is the epitome of  a classic American diner.

Atlas Pizza, located at 104 Washington St SW, is my personal favorite! After all, who doesn’t love pizza? They make the pizza sauce from scratch daily. They top the pizza crust with parmesan and garlic butter. Atlas Pizza  has 11 incredible specialty pizzas which includes: Philly CheeseSteak, California Vegi, Pesto, The Sheppard, Nuts About Thai, Greek Pizza, White Pizza, The Jerk, Loaded Potato, Buffalo and Poseidon.. If you’re not in the mood for pizza they also have a large selection of salads, sandwiches and wraps to choose from. They even have a sweet dessert menu which includes Angel Food Cake and Brownie A La Mode

Sweet Magnolia’s Café is another delicious option. You can find them on 118 Main St SW, but be conscience of the time! They are only open on Monday through Saturday from 10am to 3pm. They are famous for their chicken salad that comes with your choice of grilled bread or on a bed of organic greens. It is made with mayonnaise, pecans, grapes, celery and a special seasoning. The chicken salad was chosen by Esquire Magazine as “One of the Best Sandwiches in America.” They have homemade side options such as the broccoli raisin salad, organic spring green and Cora’s cabbage salad. Don’t forget to taste the dessert menu which includes the Hello Dollies which are made of graham crackers, pecans, chocolate and coconut!

There are several other places that offer great food options in Gainesville, Ga. Restaurants such as Luna’s or Scott’s offer more of a romantic atmosphere. If you are looking for an eating experience along with live entertainment check out Recess Southern Gastro Pub on 118 Bradford St SE. If you are looking for a comfy diner that offers sidewalk tables to take in the beauty of the day, visit Avocados Restaurant on 109 Bradford St S.  There is restaurant to satisfy any craving you could possibly have. Go explore and try them all!
