Homecoming is a time to celebrate the true spirit of Brenau. This year’s festivities were hosted on the weekend of Oct.2nd-4th. Throughout this weekend, events are held all over campus that students and faculty along with their families can participate in. Everyone is able to indulge in the Brenau experience.
Unfortunately, majority of this year’s events were cancelled due to the rain brought by Hurricane Joaquin. A few of these events include “Crawfish for a Cure” hosted by Alpha Delta Pi and Delta Delta Delta, along with Alpha Gamma Delta’s “Dunk-a-Nut” which would raise money to support the individual philanthropies of these sororities. The highly anticipated Homecoming Parade starting at the Burd center and ending in front of the library was called off due to the inclement weather. Lastly, The Betty Fly Band scheduled to perform in the amphitheatre was aborted.
However Brenau’s Family Weekend prevailed. Many students embraced family members and friends onto the campus with excitement. The bleachers were packed with dozens of cheering Golden Tigers fans for the homecoming volleyball game. Although Brenau did not win, everyone cheered the ladies on for playing a difficult, but close game. Alpha Delta Pi and Delta Delta Delta were able to their “Pie an ADPi or Delta Tri’’ event to raise money for their respective philanthropies.
Although the weather was dreary, the energy of the entire Brenau community was high during this year’s Homecoming Family Weekend. The warmth and spirit arose among students as they embraced familiar faces that reminded them of home. The campus events that persevered in the midst of the rain assembled the entire school and created a sense of unity. We are all looking forward to the exciting events to come during next year’s Homecoming and Family Weekend. Hopefully, the weather will allow us to fully participate in everything.
