(Gainesville, Ga) On Oct. 6 McDonald’s launched their new all day breakfast menu. Over 14,300 golden arch restaurants made this switch allowing customers to get those hotcakes or a sausage biscuit at noon even if they snoozed their morning alarm.
The idea of venturing into a 24 hour breakfast, lunch, and dinner service started back in March when a few restaurants began this service as an experiment to boost sales. This took effect around the same time the new CEO Steve Easterbrook took chair back in March. Aside from food quality ideas and ways to boost the franchises unsatisfying sales drop, Easterbrook reached out to the chicken suppliers asking them to cut back on the antibiotics in the chicken sent to McDonald’s restaurants. Easterbrook also encouraged suppliers to start using real butter instead of liquid margarine.
Although the breakfast items cost less than your average Mcdonald’s lunch meal, Royal Bank of Canada analyst David Palmer believes it could boost four percent of sales.
After interviewing Regino Zavala, manager of McDonald’s located on 707 Jesse Jewell Pkwy, here is what he had to say about this exciting change:
How have the sales changed since the 24 hour breakfast menu?
“Haven’t had too much of a difference.”
Even with the lower cost of breakfast items, do you think your average customer base will stay with the normal lunch items?
“We might see a mixture of the crowds.”
What extra planning took place for you and the current employees now that the breakfast menu is released?
“We need to quickly train the two other shifts on our crew how to properly prep and work during a breakfast shift.”
Did this create any additional job opportunities for people to come work at McDonalds?
“At the time no. But hopefully we will have more spots open on the grill soon.”
Can the customer expect to get the same quality food and service with the new addition or will it take a few extra minutes to prepare?
“Yes, but depending on what you want it may take a little longer because they are cooking it fresh on the spot. Most of the customers haven’t had a problem with waiting the few extra minutes to get the items they want. It also keeps our employees on their feet because you could get a mixture of orders from breakfast to dinner.”
