Brenau is the place to be. Aside from the handful of great programs, clubs and sports teams, Brenau also hosts a scholarship competition. With competition comes adrenaline and excitement. All applications are due to Ms. Debbie no later than Nov. 2. After catching up with Ms. Debbie for more information about the competition here’s what she had to say:
What is the purpose of this competition?
“The Miss Brenau Ideal Scholarship Competition is an opportunity to provide scholarships to those students who promote the values of the University espoused in The Brenau Ideal, take pride in the University, represent a strong, active student body, and enhance the University community as a whole.”
What are the qualities that you searching for in contestants?
“Qualities mentioned in the Ideal, written by President H.J. Pearce:
To find satisfaction in being rather than in seeming;
To find joy in doing rather than in dreaming;
To be prepared for service thereby earning the right to be served;
To be pure in heart; vigorous in mind, discreet in action;
To love deeply, fear nothing, hate never;
To enjoy that freedom which comes from knowledge of the “Truth”;
To be modestly conscious of the limitations of human knowledge
and serenely confident of the limitless reaches of human endeavor–
This is the ideal of Brenau.”
How will the judges determine the winner?
“There are three categories in the competition: written essay, oratory presentation and community service. Judges from every category will provide scores for each candidate. The candidate with the highest score in each category is presented a $1,000 scholarship. The candidate with the highest combined score from all categories will be presented with the $3,000 scholarship and the title of Miss Brenau Ideal.”
How will the winner represent Brenau?
“She will represent Brenau throughout the year by being visible at campus events during her tenure, attending University receptions and participating in campus enrichment programs. The winner will also be invited to certain University and Alumnae events.”
