The number 7 nationally ranked Golden Tigers Tennis team currently holds a 6-2 record and is 2-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) play. The team recently traveled to California over Spring Break for a West Coast swing and came back with three victories.
The first match was held against San Diego Christian where the Golden Tigers won with a final score of 8-1. Singles matches were won by: Fatyha Berjane, Rebecca Pijls, Maya Mammetgulyyeva and Paula Rives. In the doubles matches Brenau won two sets with Mammetgulyveva/Pijls and Berjane/Kelley Cohron and in the third doubles match Brenau won by forfeit.
The second stop for the Golden Tigers was at Westmont College where the Golden Tigers won 7-2. In the doubles matches Brenau had two wins with Berjane/Palau and Recalde/Cohron. The Golden Tigers had five wins in singles matches with Berjane, Pijls, Mammetgulyyeva, Rives, and Cohron. Berjane defeated #4 ranked NAIA player Lauren Stratman in her singles match.
The third and final stop for the Golden Tigers was at Biola University where the match was a clean sweep for the #7 Golden Tigers where they won 9-0.
After the West Coast sweep, Berjane was selected as the SSAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. The senior is the #9 ranked NAIA Singles Player and is currently 7-1 in singles matches and 6-2 in doubles play.
The Golden Tigers will travel to Dalton State College on March 18. The next home match is April 14 at 3 p.m. against Georgia Gwinnett College. For more information visit brenautigers.com.
