(Gainesville, Ga) Chicago Cubs ended their 71-year drought by defeating L.A Dodgers 5-0 in game 6 of the National League Championship Series. The Cubs traveled to Cleveland for the opening game on Oct. 25, but struggled to get anything on the scoreboard. 71 years and nine innings later, the Cubs are yet to score in a World Series game at Wrigley Field. The Indians already have two shutouts in three World Series games, meaning the Cubs must win at the Wrigley Field in game four if they stand any chance of winning the Series.
As the Cleveland Indians take a 2-1 lead in the World Series, it is by no mistake that they have got to the finals by luck. The Indians took victory in game one with a final result of 6-0. Game 2 saw the Cubs pull it back with a 5-1 victory, but they now trail after a mere 1-0 loss in game 3 at Wrigley Field. The Indians are the first team in history with five shutouts in a single postseason and stand at 23-0 when both Andrew Miller and Cody Allen are at pitch. Allen has six saves this postseason in six opportunities.
The Cubs last World Series title came 108 years ago in 1908. They face the longest championship drought in the National League. After their last appearance in the World Series game against Detroit Tigers in 1945 with a loss, the Cubs are more determined than ever to not experience a repeat of 1945.
While I am confident that the Cubs can challenge for victory in game four, it’s going to take a similar work ethic to game two, in order for a victory. With the Indians being so close to claiming a World Series, it’ll be hard to throw them off of a championship win at this point. Home advantage could certainly work in the Cubs favor; Wrigley Field could receive their first win in over 70 years if that were the case. Regardless of who wins this World Series, I’ve never understood why it’s called a World Series when it is only hosted in America.
