It’s Thanksgiving break and most students are at home that Monday, before Thanksgiving, spending time with family and prepping for a big feast a few days later. Here at Brenau, students are still in class.
Brenau gives students three days of break for the Thanksgiving holiday. Other schools give students the full week. Some grade schools get more time off than students at Brenau.
A full week gives students who live hours from campus, or even out of state the opportunity to get ahead of traffic, and spend more time with their family. If a student has class until 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday, but lives eight hours away this could lead to the student driving late at night to get home. This cuts precious time with family, especially since some of these students don’t visit home often.
I don’t think there’s a significant reason to have class for two days. At least in the past after Thanksgiving students return to take finals and are back home within a week. This year students have another week after Thanksgiving for class then a week for finals. So what is the point?
