Brenau University’s 2017 Winter Weekend

(Gainesville, Ga) On Saturday, January 28th Brenau University invited prospective students to stay overnight on campus to catch a glimpse of what college at Brenau is like.

The event kicked off on Saturday with a welcome from President, Dr. Ed Schrader. Students then got a chance to break off into their majors to learn more about the programs in their department. Each department showcased themselves in different ways, such as the Mass Communications department, who put the students on air in the television studio as well as in the radio studio.

Brenau University’s Greek Life invited students who were interested in learning more about Greek life  at Brenau to “Meet The Greeks” showcase in the upstairs lobby of Pearce Auditorium. Afterward, everyone gathered into Pearce Auditorium for Greek Sing, where all of the sorority’s had a moment in the spotlight singing songs about their respective chapters. Students were then invited to a taco fest dinner in Hopkin’s dining hall with a fun taco theme.

The highlight of the day was Brenau’s Got Talent held in Pearce Auditorium. Brenau students shared their talent with their community and with prospective students. The audience was entertained by the mistress of ceremony Amanda Lammers, Vice President of student affairs. The show concluded with Emeline Phiney taking 1st  first place for her heartfelt singing of “Astonishing,” which was dedicated to her grandmother who was proudly smiling in the crowd.

Students got the opportunity to enjoy Kona Ice, smores, gourmet hot chocolate and lots of dancing in the dining hall following the talent show. Then they were escorted back to sorority houses and dorms  residence halls on campus where they spent the night.

We take special pride in The Alchemist. The student ran newspaper was the first publication distributed on the campus of Brenau University. The Alchemist went viral in Fall 2006. It has been over 100 years since the first article was printed, and has since evolved into the prominent platform for students to leave a legacy through their writing.
