(Gainesville, Ga) Many community members have taken to protesting across from the Regions and Wells Fargo Banks on Jesse Jewell Bridge Rd. Many concerned citizens have been passionately supporting “A Day Without Immigrants” on February 16th. These protesters have been trying to prove a point that if immigrants were all deported to their countries of origin or nationality, we would all feel the loss of their help in our communities. It is an effort to prove to Donald Trump’s campaign that America benefits from the influence of immigrants.
Businesses remained closed for the entire day, and many immigrants were either out protesting or remained at home protesting silently by refusing to go to work. One parent of a Gainesville High School student stated, “only 9 out of 30 people showed up. Many students walked out or screamed profanities about Donald Trump.” Protests have continued throughout the week with small groups of community members popping up all over Gainesville.
