(Gainesville, GA) Facebook is finally testing out a feature social media goers have been asking for- a dislike button! However, it’s not exactly located where viewers wanted it. Facebook is currently testing the dislike button on Facebook Messenger. When the discussion first came up about the dislike button, users wanted it to be placed in the news feed to dislike posts. Instead, Facebook decided to add the emojis we have now: the classic thumbs up, the heart, surprised face, crying face, and angry face. So far, the emojis and the thumbs down button have received some great feedback from social media fans, but users will have to see if it survives long enough to be featured on the main feed.
Facebook has also come under fire recently because it has created a new Snapchat-like feature that lets you posts photos or videos for a limited time, much like Snapchat. It is not the only social media platform to adopt this new idea- Instagram has also jumped on the bandwagon and created Instagram stories. While in the Facebook app, you can swipe left and open the camera and mess with filters and frames. The top of your news feed also might look a little different. Now you can watch your friend’s stories up at the top of your screen, but they are only visible for 24 hours.
It seems like Facebook is finally trying to catch up with the popularity that Instagram and Snapchat have had by adding features that are extremely similar to the originals. Facebook will have to watch and see how users react to these changes.
