Brenau University and the City of Gainesville will be hosting a variety of events and activities related to Latino-Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. One of these events will be be an exhibit from world-renowned Cuban artist Alexi Torres in the Castelli Gallery located at Burd’s Center that will be inaugurated on Thursday, September 19. Tuesday, September 17
The College of Business and Communication will host their first Community Connection Kick-off event from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Jacobs building located on 340 Green Street. The event will connect student with government officials, community and industry partners, potential employers for internships and career opportunities.
Wednesday, September 18
The Miller Institute for Global Education host their first International Trivia Night at the Miller Institute Den located on 406 Academy Street from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Students will be able to enjoy international food, and have the opportunity to win gift cards to use at the Downtown Square. Teams are maximum 5 members and categories will be geography, history, music, traditions, holidays, and more. Guests like the Quinlan Visual Arts Center will be joining.
Thursday, September 19
Brenau University will host an opening reception for Cuban artist Alexi Torres’ Unbrainwashable exhibit from September 19 to November 9 at the the John S. Burd Center of Performing Arts. The reception will start 6 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. where Torres will discuss his life and his works that have been featured in numerous publications, including Hi Fructose, the Huffington Post, and the Daily Mail UK. Also, he has received multiple awards and accolades.
Friday, September 20
Good News Clinic will be hosting a Fresh Food Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 629 High SW. You can find all types of fresh fruit and vegetables from local farmers at low prices and tax free. More information about the event will be coming soon.
Saturday, September 21
The Gainesville Ballet Company and the Brenau University Dance Department will present Dancing in the Moonlight at the Hosch Theater located on 429 Academy Street from 7 p.m.
Sunday, September 22
The Gainesville Parks and Recreation Foundation will host their 27th Annual Butterfly Release at the Midland Greenway located at 682 Grove Street from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees will find crafts, exhibitors, and food trucks.
