Brenau University sorority, Delta Delta Delta, also named Tri Delta, hosted “Slices for Saint Jude,” to raise funds for Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The event was held from 5 PM to 7 PM on January 23rd, featuring the sale of various sliced treats, including pizzas, pies, cakes, and cheesecakes.
All proceeds from the fundraiser directly support Saint Jude, continuing Tri Delta’s long-standing commitment to childhood cancer research. Michelle Pizano, a junior Elementary Education major with a minor in History and Political Science and the Director of Philanthropy at Tri Delta, has been an active member of the sorority since Spring 2022. She joined in her freshman year, drawn to its philanthropic mission.
“It was an amazing opportunity, and I really liked their philanthropy,” said Pizano. “I have a cousin that sadly passed away from childhood cancer, and since Tri Delta’s philanthropy is childhood cancer research, specifically supporting Saint Jude, I felt a strong connection. I wanted to do a service for my cousin and my family, and that’s why I joined.”
Tri Delta’s partnership with Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital began in 1999, and in the past 25 years, the sorority has raised over $100 million for the cause. Because of this achievement, they now are named as Saint Jude’s Kindness.
“When Tri Delta was first established, we always cared about children’s health and well-being,” said Pizano. “Partnering with Saint Jude was a natural fit because we saw our values—truth, self-sacrifice, and friendship—reflected in their mission. We realized we could make an impact beyond ourselves, beyond being college students, and do something truly meaningful.”
Pizano also shared that despite being a small chapter with only 23 members at Brenau, they achieved an impressive milestone last year by raising $8,000. They continue to make a significant impact in the fight against childhood cancer. Their dedication to philanthropy and their partnership with Saint Jude showcases the power of collective action and the importance of giving back. Through events like “Slices for Saint Jude” and their ongoing efforts, these students prove that even small groups can make a big difference.
For those interested in supporting Tri Delta’s mission, keep an eye out for their upcoming events or consider making a direct donation to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Tri Delta hosts philanthropy events every month to support Saint Jude. Following “Slices for Saint Jude,” the sorority is preparing for their next event, “Sincerely Yours,” where members write letters to family, neighbors, and childhood friends, inviting them to donate to the cause. Another upcoming event, “Donate Dance Off,” will bring the entire campus together for a dance competition. Various sororities and student organizations will participate, creating a fun and engaging way to raise additional funds for Saint Jude.
