According to reports, an 8 year old girl sat in her bunk bed, shortly after midnight, completing her homework. However, homework proved to be the least of the family’s worries.
A male cut the screen of the unlocked window, and reached in and grabbed the child. The suspect attempted to take the girl to an alley near the home, where what authorities believed to be his car. Putting up a fight, the girl got away from her kidnapper and ran back toward her home. The screams of the girl, woke her sleeping father. He ran outside to find the child running back towards her home where she met her father, not far from the alley.
The father reported that the vehicle that possibly belonged to the perpetrator was silver or gray, and a possibly a BMW make.
“There is nothing to indicate that this family was targeted in particular, which in some ways make it even more chilling,” said the Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates. He also stated that this incident should be should be a lessons to all parents, and that because of the child’s actions, she possibly saved her life.
Police have since put out a $10,000 reward for anyone who may have details and know the suspect. The man is described as a white male, with short blond hair, wearing a black winter coat, and a distinct smell of cigarette smoke.
Parents of the child returned home later, to retrieve family pets, but declined to speak to reporters before leaving.
