(Gainesville, GA)At the Olympics in Sochi, Russia, American alpine skier Bode Miller, tied for the bronze medal on Feb. 17. He has never focused so much on the medals. This has been his most important race thus far in his career. At 36 years old, the oldest Olympian at the Sochi games, this was his last shot at a medal.
After the race, when he tied for the bronze medal, he had an emotional celebration. Last April, Miller’s brother died of a seizure that was the result of a motorcycle accident that happened years back. His brother had a shot at representing the United States in the winter games in the sport of snowboarding. Before the start of the race, it was said that Miller was speaking to his brother saying things like “I know you’re here with me”.
This bronze medal is Miller’s fifth Olympic medal. He is officially the oldest alpine skier to win an Olympic medal. He did not compete this past year due to a recovering knee injury.
