Oscar’s Fashion

The 2014 Oscars showcased much excitement and surprise this year. Outside from the thrill of the awards lineup, there were many surprises this year. Host Ellen DeGeneres surprised all by buying pizza for the audience. She then took a “selfie”, which she shared on twitter. The picture featured several stars and was retweeted over 3 million times and created the most tweeted photo ever. The stars created a lot of buzz during the night, but ambitious fashion choices were lacking this year.

There were several different themes for this year’s Oscars red carpet looks. Muted colors seemed to be a theme of the night including beige and other neutral tones, pastel colors, white and black. Celebrities also seemed to gravitate towards more elegant styles in solid colors that focused more on fit. Celebrities seemed to gravitate more towards figure flattering dresses with draping rather than sexy styles with high slits and short length. Lupita Nyong’o looked stunning in a pastel blue Prada gown that she helped design. Cate Blanchett stuck to neutral tones with a tan embellished gown by Armani. Jennifer Lawrence stuck to her familiar “girl on fire” theme and wore a simple form fitting red Dior dress. The look was very similar to the red Calvin Klein dress she wore in 2011. Kate Hudson looked stunning in a white beaded Versace gown that featured figure flattering draping. Lady Gaga even toned down her normally ambitious style with a figure flattering metallic dress by Versace. Her look was also completed by a sleek up do.

“Bette Midler’s dress was gorgeous! I loved the red lace and Sandra Bullock looked amazing in her navy blue Alexander McQueen gown,” Student Kaitlyn Salter said.
