“Brenau Women’s College is one of the 48 remaining active women’s colleges in the U.S., but I’m
sure you didn’t click on this article to get a history lesson about Brenau. However, Brenau’s rich
history and traditions are precisely the reasons why I love my women’s college so much.
Traditions are a huge part of life at Brenau. Whether it be getting thrown into the fountain by
your friends and sisters upon the announcement of your engagement, joining Brenau’s Greek
life(one of only 4 women’s colleges with Greek life in the whole world!), or representing your
class by serving on May Court…Brenau traditions are present everywhere you look. May Day is
a tradition that has been with Brenau for a very long time, and is many people’s favorite
tradition. Many years ago, May Day even had themes, such as in 1935 when the theme was
May Day at the Old Plantation… how cute is that?!
Knowing the history and traditions of Brenau inspires me so much. I share a sisterhood and an
amazing history with thousands of amazing Brenau women I look up to everyday. Brenau has
given me much more than I could ever thank her for and I hope I can make a mark on Brenau
like Brenau has made a mark on me. That is why I love my women’s college.”
