Brenau Step Team “Echo Squad” Presents 2016 Spring Show

(Gainesville, GA) The Brenau University Step Team “Echo Squad” ignited the crowd with at their annual spring step show in Pearce Auditorium on Thursday, April 7. Sophomores Amari Banks and Janai Bennett hosted the show. The duo told their bad breakup stories in between introducing different acts throughout the night.

The show was themed after the differences between boys and girls after break-ups. The team appeared on stage with powerful steps and well-organized skits that kept the crowd’s attention. During the part I themed from the male perspective the team danced and performed skits off of the songs “Thief in the Night” by Young Thug, “Recognize” by PartyNextDoor, “Exchange” by Bryson Tiller and “Sorry” by Justin Bieber. During part II themed from the male perspective the team performed from the songs “Here We Go Again” by Trina ft. Kelly Rowland, “Say It” by Tory Lanez and a special remix of Beyonce’s song “Formation.”

During the intermission, the crowd received three performances to keep the energy going. Sophomore Devin Smith gave a wonderful spoken word performance with a captivating poem about love trying not to destroy each other. Next Sophomore Arrissa Walker along with her father and younger brother performed an outstanding musical selection. She played the piano as she sung the originally written piece. Lastly, Senior Eenyie Ken-Piaro delivered an original spoken word piece entitled “A Woman’s Scorned: Broken Vows.” The poem was so powerful, she completely silenced the crowd with the passion and strength behind her words.

We take special pride in The Alchemist. The student ran newspaper was the first publication distributed on the campus of Brenau University. The Alchemist went viral in Fall 2006. It has been over 100 years since the first article was printed, and has since evolved into the prominent platform for students to leave a legacy through their writing.
