SunTrust Park; A place where old meets new

March 21, 2017 By Victoria Swaim Leave a Comment

Last year it was a bittersweet feeling as Atlanta Braves fans gathered for their last game at Turner Field in October 2016.  The Braves had been playing at Turner Field for nearly 20 years and it was time to move on. With a sellout game of over 50,000 fans they won , 1-0 over the Detroit Tigers. Now they look forward to starting the 2017 season in their new stadium at SunTrust Park.

The new park will present a year round atmosphere to keep drawing in revenue. They will accommodate fans with Shopping, dining, living, office and entertainment space, as well as a boutique hotel that will create a play/work/stay environment. This includes green space and a water feature along with the ballpark. Shops such as Wahlburgers, Kings Bowl,Live!, Goldberg’s, Bagel Company & Deli, Mountain High Outfitters, Sugarboo Designs, Dress Up, and Harley-Davidson will be available.

The season will be kicked off  in the new stadium on opening weekend, April 14th through 16th. “Every Saturday home game, starting with the May 6 contest against the St. Louis Cardinals, will be a theme night in the ballpark. Theme nights will give fans the chance to enjoy pregame and in-game activities related to the theme, limited-edition concession and merchandise items, and the option to purchase a ticket package that comes with a themed giveaway or experience,” the Braves said in a release of their promotional schedule.

In attempt to create a better parking experience for fans, the Braves have made various accommodations. The Waze navigation app has the ability to update fans on their routes of any possible delay. The Braves say that fans will be given directions to their designated parking area which each have their own addresses. The braves have also names Uber an official partner and designated a pickup and drop off location for fans located on Windy Ridge Parkway. There are 14 points of access to help the traffic flow to  11,000 parking spots. According to  Mike Plant, president of development for the Braves, “We have already analyzed and forecasted traffic flow through every corridor entering our development. While we know this plan will continue to evolve, we couldn’t be more pleased with where we are at this time.” There will also be a Brave’s Shuttle to help commuting fans.

Tickets for individual games have recently become available for purchase. To get a Braves 2017 season schedule visit their website at http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com. You can also purchase your tickets there.
