Arts & Entertainment: The Odyssey

Director Michael Granberry has finally made it to Gainesville, Ga to help direct Gainesville theatre alliance adaptation of “The Odyssey” at North Georgia’s Ed Cabell Theatre. His appearance comes after the managing director Jim Hammond had lunch with Grandberry convincing him to help build create the story of “The Odyssey”. Grandberry had numerous accomplishments in creatively directing a preschool series call “Tumble Leaf” which won him an Emmy and a feature film called “Anomalisa” which has been nominated for both Oscar and Golden Globe.

When asked about the difference between animating a movie and a show Grandberry stated “The challenge of doing a play that has come up through the centuries is finding a way to make it relevant to contemporary audiences,” He also who graduated from Brenau University in 1991. “‘The Odyssey’ particularly has survived because it has so many scenes and chapters in it that are so relevant to modern audiences.”

GTA has been known to bring notable theatre scholars to work on their shows.Granberry is one of many who have helped among those who have helped on productions is Mrs. Jodi Benson the voice of Ariel from the Little Mermaid. He like Mrs. Benson has also worked on very infamous projects such “Robot Chicken” “Bob’s Burgers,”  and “Adventure Time”. The students learn so much from visiting artist and it also gives them a chance to inquiry about working in the theatre/entertainment industry. GTA is proud to broadcast that many of their alumnis work with notable artist in the theatre world.

These famous alumni artist returning to GTA is helping the company expand and become more known. Furthermore, it encourages the young artist to continue to strive towards their dreams. To learn more about the show Odyssey and to buy tickets visit http://blog.ung.edu/gta/.

We take special pride in The Alchemist. The student ran newspaper was the first publication distributed on the campus of Brenau University. The Alchemist went viral in Fall 2006. It has been over 100 years since the first article was printed, and has since evolved into the prominent platform for students to leave a legacy through their writing.
