Winning a talent show can teach the importance of continuing to pursue your passions. This past Saturday at Brenau’s Winter Weekend LaTonya Boston tapped her way to 1st place at Brenau’s Got Talent. She won the grand prize of $750.00. Boston is a sophomore dance major and was an elite member of the NoFilterSoulTalk teen group founded by Syncopated Ladies, an Emmy nominated dance troupe. Her year with Syncopated Ladies gave her the talented ability to beat her fierce competitors at BGT, whom some are also professional dancers.
You can tell Boston is still in a state of amazement since the event. The reason for her amazement was that she didn’t think she would win with her tap performance because she had recently taken a break from tapping. She stated about winning “ it’s very exciting, it pushes me to want to do more with dance. I was growing away from dance, I don’t know I wasn’t really feeling it. This year when I set my goals, it was to start finding my love for dance again.”
While her passion for dance is re-igniting, she is hoping to inspire other young dancers. Boston teaches part-time at a dance studio and as an up-in-coming professional dance teacher she wants to give back to her tapping roots. Boston first began tapping at 3-years-old in her hometown of Dublin, Ga. Boston stated, after she takes care of some of her school finances she wants to “give back to the community, by using some of it to start a dance camp in the summertime in my hometown”. Boston’s ambition is admirable and shows the humble nature she maintains regardless of her newfound status as BGT winning star.
