The Brenau University Golden Tigers soccer team was able to come back from a loss to the University of Mobile in overtime on Friday. The girls defeated the Spring Hill College Badgers by a decisive score of 4-1 in conference matchup on Saturday at Allen Creek Soccer Complex in

Brenau came out strong and put a lot of pressure on the Badgers’ defense. The Tigers (5-2, 1-1 SSAC) were able to take an early lead in the sixth minute on a goal by Esther Anwanyu from a pass by Linda Chukwuji. Brenau kept pressing through most of the first half and took a 2-0 lead in the 28th minute when Kayla Madsen was able to put one past the Spring Hill goalkeeper.
However, the tigers could not sustain their aggressive attacks and Spring Hill’s Amanda Allen cut the lead to one on a goal. Brenau would take the 2-1 lead into the half.
The Golden Tigers came back in the second half with increased focus and intensity, playing much better defense through the second half.
Brenau controlled the ball for most of the half and the Tigers added an insurance goal on another Anyanwu shot in the 74th minute.Brenau continued battering Spring Hill with shots but did not get another one through until the 87th minute, when Anyanwu got the ball to Jenny Knibbs who put it in the net and secured the victory.Anyanwu finished the game with two goals and a pair of assists, and Chukwuji tallied two assists for the Golden Tigers. Brenau recorded nine shots on goal, and goalkeeper Tori Brown made three saves.The Golden Tigers travel to Belhaven University on Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. in Jackson, Miss.
