Just hours after scoring the last touchdown for the Atlanta Falcons in their defeat over the Denver Broncos, running back Michael Turner was arrested for driving while under the influence and speeding.
Turner, 30, was pulled over after Gwinnett County officer clocked Turner’s black Audi R8 going 32 miles per hour over the speed limit. The officer smelled alcohol coming from the vehicle and Turner, who then failed the sobriety test, was taken to Gwinnett County jail.
Coach of the Falcons, Mike Smith, spoke his thoughts on the situation. “First and foremost,” Smith said, “Any time a player sheds negatively on our football team and on our organization, we are very disappointed.” He feels this is a legal matter and they will just have to let the process run its course. Smith didn’t mention whether or not Turner would be suspended for the game against San Diego on Sunday.
Although Turner plays a vital role in the Falcons offense, if the NFL or NFLPA decide to discipline him, the team will have no choice but to follow the guidelines.
