Royal Christening

Royal Family
By:Caroline Aldridge

Prince William and his wife Kate christened their baby George on October 23, 2013. To many people’s surprise, it was

only in front of a small group of 23 guests. That’s not the only thing that shocked people; no immediate family members were given the honor of godparent.

George has seven godparents which includes loyal staff, college friends of William and Kate, one cousin, and old family friends. These choices were unique because it includes non-royals, when, in most cases, the godparents are foreign royals.
The only royals that attended the christening were Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, and Prince Harry, and, of course, Kate’s parents were in attendance.

As if Will and Kate hadn’t broken enough traditions, they also broke the tradition of where the christening would be held. Baby George was christened at Church of England. William, Charles and the Queen were all baptized in the Music Room of Buckingham Palace.
