(Gainesville, Ga.)—As the fall semester comes to a close, Brenau Golden Tigers athletics are transitioning into new seasons for basketball, swimming, and cheerleading.
Successful regular seasons for the fall sports – cross-country, soccer and volleyball – has seen all three teams compete in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) playoffs.
Cross Country
On Nov. 8, Brenau’s cross-country team finished second at the SSAC Championships in Clinton, Mississippi.
Utami Ketchem, Brittany Aikens and Deishane’ Honeycutt placed in the top ten out of 79 runners overall. They will travel to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Championships in Lawrence, Kanas on Nov. 22.
In a preseason coaches poll, Brenau’s cross-country team was ranked eighth out of 14 schools. It is safe to say the Golden Tigers exceeded expectations.
Soccer
Brenau’s soccer team ended their season with an 8-8-2 overall record when they lost to the NAIA second ranked William Carey University in the SSAC quarterfinal round on Nov. 8.
Throughout the season the Golden Tigers achieved a ranking of #16 in the nation.
Following the end of their season, senior Elizabeth Campbell was selected to the All-SSAC first team. Vanessa Alexander, Tori Brown and Jenny Knibbs were also honored with second and third team selections.
Volleyball
The volleyball team is currently competing in the SSAC tournament, where so far they have lost their first three matches.
However, a regular season featuring outstanding performances from senior Sydney Koon garnered a selection to the All-SSAC first team. Koon led the Golden Tigers in kills, attack percentage, and was second in digs.
Basketball
Brenau’s basketball team is off to a promising start with a record of two wins and one loss.
This season’s team welcomes plenty of new faces that have already started to build a strong chemistry that will guide them throughout the season.
Swimming
After ranking first in fall meets at the Converse College International and against Columbia College, Berry College and Thomas University, the Golden Tigers swimming looks to make a statement this winter season.
