(Gainesville, GA) Last week’s athlete senior spotlight was on Brenau’s Track and Field and Cross Country member Deishane Honeycutt. Deishane is what you would consider a founding member of the Golden Tigers Track team due to her being on the inaugural team.

Since she first stepped foot on the campus, she has won numerous awards for track and cross country including NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) Track and Field Athlete of the Year, Track Freshman of the Year, and qualifying for the NAIA Cross Country Nationals. She holds the record for the fastest time in numerous events and continues to be a team leader even into her senior year.

Even though she works hard on the track and dedicates a lot of time to excelling in her sport, it does not mean she is slacking in the class room. Deishane is a Biology major and remains on the All-Academic Team. She is also a part of Mu Sigma Chi, the math and science club, in which she plays a key role. It is safe to say that Deishane is a remarkable athlete. Most importantly, she’s a remarkable woman here at Brenau.

We take special pride in The Alchemist. The student ran newspaper was the first publication distributed on the campus of Brenau University. The Alchemist went viral in Fall 2006. It has been over 100 years since the first article was printed, and has since evolved into the prominent platform for students to leave a legacy through their writing.
