On March 30, 2020 the Brenau Office of Academic Affairs announced that there will be a commencement ceremony for the senior class. Once the Brenau campus is allowed to re-open there will be commencement ceremony, which could be around May or June. This means for seniors they will no longer have to wait until August- the estimated date for graduation- for the biggest moment of their college career. These are few things Brenau seniors had to say about the the possibility of graduation being sooner than expected:
Senior Profile: Nikki Carter
Carter is a senior Health Science: Pre-Occupational Therapy major from Canton, GA. The first thing she is looking forward to after graduation is getting a job in occupational therapy, so she has her foot in the door after grad school. Her dream career is to be an occupational therapist at the Marcus Autism Institute.
Student Athletes vs. COVID-19
All athletic season have been cut short. Not just for Brenau, but for all NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics), NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association), and NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association). This means that any athletes that just started playing or haven’t played yet lose that athletic season.
Senior Profile: Madison Zaferatos
It is common for people to transfer in and out of a school, but for Madison Zaferatos she has been a dedicated Brenau student for four complete years. Zaferatos is a Biology major from Advance, North Carolina. The first thing she wants to do after she graduates is to go to PA school with dreams of being a Neurosurgeon.
How College Students are handling the stress of COVID-19
Before, Kemp issued a statewide quarantine, many people were already socially distancing and self-quarantining. This is due to many people being aware, before Kemp’s address, that COVID-19 can be spread by asymptomatic people. Now that Kemp has forced non-essential workers to return home it has caused a great deal of stress for college students.
